We have to find the mean of the given frequency distribution.
Solution:
Let the assumed mean be $A=50$
We know that,
Mean $=A+\frac{\sum{f_id_i}}{\sum{f_i}}$
Therefore,
Mean $=50+(\frac{-20}{40})$
$=50-0.5$
$=49.5$
The mean of the given frequency distribution is $49.5$.
