Find the length of a platform in metres which a woman crosses at a speed of 60 km per hour in $\frac{5}{2}$ minutes.
Given:
The speed of the woman$=60\ km/hr$.
Time taken to cross the platform$=\frac{5}{2}$ minutes.
To do:
We have to find the length of the platform.
Solution:
We know that,
Speed $=$ Distance$\div$Time
$1\ km/hr=\frac{5}{18}\ m/s$
$1\ min=60\ s$
This implies,
$60\ km/hr=60\times\frac{5}{18}\ m/s=\frac{50}{3}\ m/s$
$\frac{5}{2}\ min=\frac{5}{2}\times60\ s=150\ s$
Therefore,
Length of the platform$=\frac{50}{3}\times150\ m=2500\ m$
The length of the platform is 2500 m.
