Explain why, when a person stands on a cushion, the depression is much more than when he lies down on it.
When a person is standing on a cushion, the pressure exerted on the cushion by the person's weight is greater than when lying on the cushion. It is because the pressure is inversely proportional to the surface area. So, the depression is much more than when he lies down on it.
