Explain the secondary treatment stage of wastewater treatment.

Secondary treatment is one of the stages of wastewater treatment in which the organic matter of the partially processed wastewater is further broken down with the help of bacteria.

Therefore, it is also known as a biological process.

This step of wastewater treatment is designed to reduce the biological content of the waste with the help of aerobic biological processes where the bacteria consume organic compound of the waste and convert it into carbon dioxide, water and energy.
