In thermal power plants, coal is burnt as a fuel to produce heat, so that steam can be produced by boiling water. When steam with high temperature and pressure rises up, then it helps in rotating the turbine and its shaft which is connected to a generator. And, finally, the generator converts mechanical energy into electrical energy.
