Explain biological nitrogen fixation and atmospheric nitrogen fixation.
Biological nitrogen fixation (BNF) is the term used for a process in which the atmospheric nitrogen is converted into useful nitrogen compounds by the bacteria present in the root nodules of leguminous plants as well as some blue-green algae help in the fixation of atmospheric nitrogen.
Atmospheric Nitrogen fixation is the process by which atmospheric nitrogen is converted into ammonia (NH3), nitrites, and nitrates either by a natural or an industrial means so that it can be used by plants.
