Each of the 2 equal sides of an isosceles triangle is twice as large as the third side. If the perimeter of the triangle is 30 cm. Find the length of each side of the triangle.
Given:
Each of the 2 equal sides of an isosceles triangle is twice as large as the third side.
The perimeter of the triangle is 30 cm.
To do:
We have to find the length of each side of the triangle.
Solution:
Let the length of the third side be x.
This implies,
The length of each of the other two sides $=2x$
Therefore,
$x+2x+2x=30\ cm$
$5x=30\ cm$
$x=\frac{30}{5}\ cm$
$x=6\ cm$
$2x=2(6)\ cm=12\ cm$
The lengths of the sides of the triangle are 6 cm, 12 cm and 12 cm.
