Draw ray diagrams to represent the nature, position and relative size of the image formed by a convex lens for the object placed:(a) at $2F_1$,(b) between $F_1$ and the optical centre $O$ of the lens.Which of the above two cases shows the use of convex lens as a magnifying glass? Give reasons for your choice.

(a) Ray diagram representing the nature, position, and relative size of the image formed by a convex lens for the object placed at $2F_1$.

When an object is placed at $2F_1$ or $2F'$ of the convex lens, the image formed by the lens is at $2F_2$ or $2F$ and is real, inverted, and of the same size as the object.

(b) Ray diagram representing the nature, position, and relative size of the image formed by a convex lens for the object placed between $F_1$ and the optical centre $O$ of the lens.

When the object is placed between $F_1$ or $F'$ and the optical centre $O$ or $C$ of the convex lens, the image formed by the lens is behind the object (left of the lens), and the image is virtual, erect, and magnified.

From the above two cases, Case (b) shows the use of convex lens as a magnifying glass because the image formed is erect and magnified.
