Let a moving body starts from the velocity $u$ and in time $t$ and let $a$ be the acceleration of the body.
We know that the acceleration is the rate of change of the velocity with respect to the time.
Therefore, $a=\frac{change\ in\ velocity}{time}$
Or $a=\frac{v-u}{t}$
Or $at=v-u$
Or $v==u+at$
