Compound A, when dissolved in water, gives compound B which is used in whitewashing. Compound B reacts with carbon dioxide to form a white precipitate of compound C. Identify compounds A, B and C. Also write the equations involved.

Compound A reacts with water and gives compound B which is used in whitewashing.

The substance used for whitewashing is CaO (Calcium Oxide). Therefore, compound A is Calcium oxide having formula CaO.

a. Calcium oxide (CaO)

b. calcium hydroxide Ca(OH)2

c. calcium carbonate CaCO3  ppt
