Cards numbered from 11 to 60 are kept in a box. If a card is drawn at random from the box, find the probability that the number on the drawn cards is an odd number.

Given:

Cards numbered from 11 to 60 are kept in a box. A card is drawn at random from the box.

To do:

We have to find the probability that the number on the drawn card is an odd number.

Solution:

Total number of cards $=60-11+1=50$

This implies,

The total number of possible outcomes $n=50$.

Odd numbers from 11 to 60 are $11, 13, 15,....... 57, 59$

Total number of odd numbers from 11 to 60 $=25$

Total number of favourable outcomes $=25$.

We know that,

Probability of an event $=\frac{Number\ of\ favourable\ outcomes}{Total\ number\ of\ possible\ outcomes}$

Therefore,

Probability that the number on the drawn card is an odd number $=\frac{25}{50}$

$=\frac{1}{2}$

The probability that the number on the drawn card is an odd number is $\frac{1}{2}$.
