Calculate the number of moles for the following:
(i) 52 g of He (finding mole from mass)
(ii) 12.044 x 1023 number of He atoms (finding mole from number of particles).
(i) Given: Mass of He = 52 g
The molar mass of He = 4 g/mol
We know that when mass is given then the formula to find No. of moles can be given as-
$No.\ of\ moles=\frac{mass\ of\ substance}{molar\ mass}$
Substituting the given value in the formula we get-
$No.\ of\ moles=\frac{52}{4}=13$
Hence, the number of moles is 13 mol.
(ii) Given: number of He atoms = $12.044\times {10}^{23}$
We know,
$Number\ of\ atoms=No.\ of\ moles\times 6.022\times {10}^{23}$
Then, $No.\ of\ moles\ =\frac{Number\ of\ atoms}{6.022\times {10}^{23}}$ -----(i)
Substituting the number of atoms in (i) we get
$No.\ of\ moles=\frac{12.044\times {10}^{23}}{6.022\times {10}^{23}}=2$
Hence, the number of moles is $2$
