Calculate the acceleration of an object having the initial velocity 4m/s and after moving 4 meters comes to rest in 2 seconds?
Given,
Initial Velocity, u = 4 m/s
Distance, s = 4 m
Time, t = 2 s
To find = Acceleration, a
Solution-
From the 2nd law of motion, we know that,
$s=ut+\frac{1}{2}a{t}^{2}$
Substituting the given values we get-
$4=4\times 2+\frac{1}{2}\times a\times (2{)}^{2}$
$4=8+\frac{1}{2}\times 4\times a$
$4=8+1\times 2\times a$
$4=8+2a$
$2a=4-8$
$a=\frac{-4}{2}$
$a=-2m/{s}^{2}$
Therefore, the acceleration of the object will be -2m/s2.
Here, the minus sign indicates that acceleration is to the left, which means retardation or deceleration or the negativity to speed.
