Draw a well-labeled diagram of animal cells and mention one function of the main cell organelles.

(a) Endoplasmic Reticulum: It is a continuous membrane system that forms a series of flattened sacs within the cytoplasm of eukaryotic cells and serves multiple functions, such as protein and lipid synthesis, folding, modification, and transport of proteins.

(b) Golgi complex:

Golgi bodies receive proteins and fats from the RER (Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum). It modifies them if required and packages them into sealed droplets known as vesicles. These vesicles (containing modified proteins and fats) are released or dispatched to their required destination.

(c) Nucleus:

The nucleus is an organelle found in eukaryotic cells and contains the majority of the cell's genetic material. This material is organized as DNA molecules, along with a variety of proteins, to form chromosomes.

(d) Vacuoles:

Vacuoles are enclosed compartments filled with inorganic and organic molecules along with water molecules and enzymes. Vacuoles store food and other nutrients required for the survival of the cell. It also helps in removing waste products to prevent cells from contamination.

(e) Mitochondria: It is known as the powerhouse of the cell. They are organelles that act like a digestive system that takes in nutrients, breaks them down, and creates energy-rich molecules for the cell.
