(a) What is the meaning of the symbol kWh? What quantity does it represent?
(b) How much electric energy in kWh is consumed by an electrical appliance of 1000 watts when it is switched on for 60 minutes?
(a). $kWh$ is the symbol of $kilo-Watt-hour$.
$kWh$ is the commercial units of electric energy used.
$1\ kWh=3.6\10^6\ Joule$
(b). Here given, power of electrical appliance $P=1000\ Watt$
Time $t=60\ minutes=60\times60\ seconds=3600\ s$
Therefore, energy consumed by the electric appliance $=power\times time$
$=1000\ W\times3600\ s$
$=3.6\times10^6\ Joule$
$=1\ kWh$ [Because $1\ kWh=3.6\times10^6\ Joule$]
