(a) Photosynthesis converts energy X into energy Y. What are X and Y?
(b) State the various steps involved in the process of photosynthesis.
(a) X - solar energy
Y - chemical energy
(For more information refer to the note below)
Photosynthesis is a process in which green plants use sunlight to prepare their own food. This process requires sunlight, chlorophyll, water, and carbon dioxide gas. The chlorophyll present in leaves absorb light energy from the sun and convert into chemical energy.
(b) The various steps involved in the process of photosynthesis are:
- Absorption of light energy through the sun by chlorophyll present in leaves.
- Light energy is converted into Chemical energy. In this process, the water molecule splits into hydrogen and oxygen.
- Carbon dioxide is reduced into carbohydrates like glucose by light energy. This step takes up the hydrogen and oxygen produced in the above step.
