(a) Explain the terms ‘crests’ and ‘troughs’ of a wave? What type of waves consist of crests and troughs?
(b) The flash of a gun is seen by a man 3 seconds before the sound is heard. Calculate the distance of the gun from the man (Speed of sound in air is 332 m/s).
a). Crests are the maximum peaks in transverse waves are called crests.
Troughs are the maximum depths or valleys in transverse waves are called troughs.
b). Here given, speed of the sound $=332\ m/s$
Time taken $t=3\ s$
Therefore, distance $=speed\times time$
$=332\ m/s\times 3\ s$
$=996\ m$
therefore, the distance of the gun from the man is $996\ m$.
