Solution:

$L.H.S.=( -8)+( -9)=-8-9=-17$

$R.H.S.=( -9)+( -8)=-9-8=-17$

$L.H.S.=R.H.S.$

Thus, $( -8)+( -9)$ and $( -9)+( -8)$ are equal.
