An object travels $20\ m$ in $2s$ and then another $16\ m$ in $2s$. What is the average speed of the object?
For the first part of the journey:
Distance $d_1=20\ m$
Time $t_1=2\ s$
For the second part of the journey:
Distance $d_2=16\ m$
Time $t_2=2\ s$
Therefore, total distance $d=d_1+d_2=20\ m+16\ m=36\ m$
Total time $t=t_1+t_2=2\ s+2\ s=4\ s$
The average speed of the object $=\frac{Total\ distance}{Total\ time}$
$=\frac{36\ m}{4\ s}$
$=9\ m/s$
Therefore, the average speed of the object is $9\ m/s$.
