A weightlifter is lifting weights of mass $200\ kg$ up to a height of $2\ metres$. If $g=9.8\ ms^{-2}$, calculate:(a) potential energy acquired by the weights.(b) work done by the weightlifter.
Here mass $m=200\ kg$
Gravitational acceleration $g=9.8\ m/s^2$
Height $h=2\ m$
Therefore, (a). Potential energy $P=mgh$
$=200\ kg\times9.8\ m/s^2\times 2\ m$
$=3920\ J$
(b). Work done to lift the object $=$potential energy gained against gravity$=3920\ J$
