A truck starts from rest and rolls down a hill with a constant acceleration. It travels a distance of $400\ m$ in $20\ s$. Find its acceleration.
Here, initial velocity $u=0$
Distance traveled by truck $s=400\ m$
Time taken $t=20\ s$
Let $a$ be the acceleration of the truck.
On using the equation of motion, $s=ut+\frac{1}{2}at^2$
$400=0+\frac{1}{2}\times a\times20^2$
Or $400=0+200a$
Or $200a=400$
Or $a=\frac{400}{200}$
Or $a=2\ m/s^2$
Thus, the acceleration of the truck is $2\ m/s^2$.
