A ticket is drawn at random from a bag containing tickets numbered from 1 to 40. Find the probability that the selected ticket has a number which is a multiple of 5.
Given: A bag containing tickets from 1 to 40 numbered.
To do: To find the probability of the selected ticket to be the multiple of 5.
Solution: From 1 to 40
Numbers which are multiple of 5 are 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40
There 8 number which are multiple of 5.
$\therefore$ number of favourable outcomes$=5$
$\therefore$ Total possible outcomes$=40$
When a ticket is drawn from the bag,
Probability of the selected ticket number to be the multiple of 5
$=\frac{no.\ of\ favourable\ outcomes}{total\ no.\ of\ possible\ outcomes} =\frac{5}{40} =\frac{1}{8}$
