A positive number in 5 times another number. If 21 is added t both the numbers , then one of the new numbers becomes twice the other new number. What are the numbers?
Given: A positive number in 5 times another number
To Do: Find the numbers if 21 is added to both the numbers
Solution:
Let another number by $y$
Given positive number = $5y$
Given $5y + 21 = 2(y+21)$
$ 5y + 21 = 2y + 42$
or$ 5y - 2y = 3y = 42 - 21 = 21 $
or $y =\frac{21}{3} = 7$
So the two numbers are 7 and 35
If 21 is added to both
$35 + 21 = 56$
=$ 2 (7 + 21) = 2 \times 28 = 56.$ Verified
