A multistorey building has 25 floors above the ground level each of height 5m. It also has 3 floors in the basement each of height 5m. A lift in building moves at a rate of 1m/s. If a man starts from 50m above the ground, how long will it take him to reach at 2nd floor of basement?
Given: A multistorey building has 25 floors above the ground level each of height 5m.
It also has 3 floors in the basement each of height 5m.
A lift in building moves at a rate of 1m/s.
To do: Find how long will it take for a to reach a 2nd floor of the basement if he starts from 50m above?
Solution:
The depth of 2nd floor of basement = $ 2 \times 5 = 10m$
The height from ground level from which lift starts = $50$ m
Total distance traveled by the lift = $50 + 10 = 60$m
Speed of the lift = 1m/s
Time is taken by the lift to reach the second floor of the basement
= $\frac{Distance}{Speed} = 60 m/s
=1m/s = 60 seconds or 1 minute
