A jar contains 6 L of milk. After packing the milk in equal quantities in 8 packets, $\frac{2}{5}$ L of milk was still left in the jar. What is the quantity of milk in each of the packets?
Given:
A jar contains 6 L of milk.
After packing the milk in equal quantities in 8 packets, $\frac{2}{5}$ L of milk was still left in the jar.
To find: Here we have to find the quantity of milk in each of the packets.
Solution:
Let the quantity of milk in each packet be $x$.
The milk is packed in 8 packets.
So,
$8x$ is packed and $\frac{2}{5}$ L is left.
So,
$8x\ +\ \frac{2}{5}\ = 6$
$8x\ =\ 6\ -\ \frac{2}{5}$
$8x\ =\ \frac{30}{5}\ -\ \frac{2}{5}$
$8x\ =\ \frac{28}{5}$
$x\ =\ \frac{28}{5}\ ÷\ 8$
$x\ =\ \frac{28}{40}$
$\mathbf{x\ =\ \frac{7}{10}}$ L
So, quantity of milk in each packet is $\frac{7}{10}$ L.
