A compass needle is placed near a current carrying straight conductor. State your observation for the following cases and give reasons for the same in each case :(a) Magnitude of electric current is increased.(b) The compass needle is displaced away from the conductor.

(a) If the magnitude of electric current is increased then deflection of the compass needle increases as the magnetic field gets increased. $[Magnetic\ field\ strength \propto amount\ of\ current]$

(b) If the compass needle is displaced away from the conductor then deflection of the compass needle decreases as the magnetic field gets decreased.

$[Magnetic\ field\ strength \propto \frac {1} {distance\ from\ wire}]$
