A car acquires a velocity of 72 km per hour in 10 seconds starting from rest. Find the average velocity.
Here initial velocity $u=0$
Final velocity $v=72\ km/h=72\times\frac{5}{18}\ m/s=20\ m/s$
Time taken $t=10\ sec.$
Let $a$ be the acceleration.
On using the equation, $v=u+at$
Or $20=0+a\times 10$
Or $10a=20$
Or $a=\frac{20}{10}$
Or $a=2\ m/s^2$
Let $s$ be the displacement.
On using the equation $s=ut+\frac{1}{2}at^2$
$s=0\times 10+\frac{1}{2}\times2\times10^2$
Or $s=0+100$
Or $s=100\ m/s$
Average velocity $=\frac{Total\ displacement}{total\ time}$
$=\frac{100}{10}$
$=10\ m/s$
