A bus running at a speed of 18 km/h is stopped in 2.5 seconds by applying brakes. Calculate the retardation produced.
Here initial velocity $u=18\ km/h=18\times\frac{5}{18}\ m/s=5\ m/s$
Final velocity $v=0$
Time $t=2.5\ sec.$
Let $a$ be the retardation produced.
On using the equation of the motion:
$v=u+at$
$0=5+a\times2.5$
Or $2.5a=-5$
Or $a=-\frac{5}{2.5}$
Or $a=-2\ m/s^2$
