A body of mass $2\ kg$ is thrown vertically upwards with an initial velocity of $20\ m/s$. What will be its potential energy at the end of $2\ s$? $(Assume\ g=10\ m/s^2)$.
Here given, mass of the body $m=2\ kg$
Initial velocity of the body $20\ m/s$
Time $t=2\ s$
Gravitational acceleration $g=10\ m/s^2$
Let the body will great at $h$ height in $2\ s$
On using the second equation of motion $h=ut+\frac{1}{2}gt^2$
Or $h=20\times 2+\frac{1}{2}\times 10\times (2)^2$
Or $h=40+\frac{1}{2}\times 40$
Or $h= 40+20$
or $h=60\ m$
Therefore, the potential energy of the body after $2\ s$ will be:
$P=mgh$
Or $P=2\times 10\times 60\ m$
Or $P=1200\ Joule$.
