Solution:
Let the total number of apples be $x$.
This implies,
The percentage of good apples $= 100-16 = 84$%
The total number of good apples = 42.
Therefore,
$\frac{84}{100} \times x = 42$
$\frac{21x}{25} = 42$
$x = \frac{42 \times 25}{21}$
$x = 50$
The total number of apples in the basket is 50.
