1. Name a device that helps to maintain a potential difference across a conductor.
2. What is meant by saying that the potential difference between two points is 1 V?
3. How much energy is given to each coulomb of charge passing through a 6 V battery?
1. A battery or cell is used to maintain a potential difference across a conductor.
2. Potential difference is defined as the work done in moving one coulomb of charge from one point to the other. Thus, the potential difference between the two points is said to be 1 volt if work done in transferring 1 coulomb of charge from one point to the other point is 1 joule.
3. Here, Potential difference $V= 6\ V$
Charge $Q= 1\ C$
As known, work done $W=VQ$
Or $W=6\ V\times 1\ C$
Or $W=6\ Joule$
Therefore, $6\ Joule$ energy is given to each coulomb of charge passing through a 6 V battery.
