Given:

Nandini's house is \( \frac{9}{10} \mathrm{~km} \) from her school. She walked some distance and then took a bus for \( \frac{1}{2} \mathrm{~km} \) to reach the school.

To do:

We have to the distance she walked.

Solution:

Distance between the school and house $= \frac{9}{10}\ km$

Distance traveled by bus $= \frac{1}{2}\ km$

This implies,

Distance walked by Nandini $=$ Total distance between the school and house $-$ Distance traveled by bus

$= \frac{9}{10}-\frac{1}{2}$

$=\frac{9\times1-1\times5}{10}$

$= \frac{9-5}{10}$

$= \frac{4}{10}$

$= \frac{2}{5}\ km$

Therefore, the distance walked by Nandini is

$\frac{2}{5}\ km$.
