Given:
The number line shows the temperature in degree celsius$(^{\circ}\ C)$ at different places on a particular day.
To do:
We have to answer the given questions.
Solution:
(a) From the given number line, we can observe that,
Temperature at Bengaluru is $22^{\circ}C$
Temperature at Ooty is $14^{\circ}C$
Temperature at Shimla is $5^{\circ}C$
Temperature at Srinagar is $-2^{\circ}C$
Temperature at Lahulspiti is $-8^{\circ}C$
(b) The temperature at the hottest place(Bengaluru) is $22^{\circ}C$
The temperature at the coldest place(Lahulspiti) is $-8^{\circ}C$
The temperature difference between the hottest and the coldest places $=22^{\circ}C-(-8^{\circ}C)$
$=22^{\circ}C+8^{\circ}C$
$=30^{\circ}C$
(c) Temperature at Lahulspiti is $-8^{\circ}C$.
Temperature at Srinagar is $-2^{\circ}C$.
This implies,
The temperature difference between Lahulspiti and Srinagar $=-2^{\circ}C-(-8^{\circ}C)$
$=-2^{\circ}C+8^{\circ}C$
$=10^{\circ}C$
(d) The temperature at Srinagar $=-2^{\circ}C$
The temperature at Shimla $=5^{\circ}C$
The temperature of Srinagar and Shimla taken together $= -2^{\circ}C +5^{\circ}C$
$= 3^{\circ}C$
Here,
$5^{\circ}C>3^{\circ}C$
Therefore, the temperature of Srinagar and Shimla taken together is less than the temperature at Shimla.
Also,
$3^{\circ}C>-2^{\circ}C$
Therefore, the temperature of Srinagar and Shimla taken together is not less than the temperature of Srinagar.
