Find the sum :
(a) $ (-7)+(-9)+4+16 $
(b) $(37) + (– 2) + (– 65) + (– 8)$
To do :
We have to find the given sums.
Solution :
We know that,
$(+) \times (-) = (-)$
$(+) \times (+) = (+)$
$(-) \times (-) = (+)$
$(-) \times (+) = (-)$
(a) $(-7)+(-9)+4+16= -7-9+4+16$
$=-(7+9)+(4+16)$
$=-16+20$
$=20-16$
$= 4$
Therefore,
\( (-7)+(-9)+4+16=4 \)
(b) $(37)+(-2)+(-65)+(-8)= 37-2-65-8$
$=37-(2+65+8)$
$=37-75$
$=-(75-37)$
$= -38$
Therefore,
$(37)+(-2)+(-65)+(-8)=-38$
