Express as metres using decimals.
(a) 15 cm
(b) 6 cm
(c) 2 m 45 cm
(d) 9 m 7 cm
(e) 419 cm
To do:
We have to express the given numbers as meters using decimals.
Solution:
We know that,
$1\ m=100\ cm$
This implies,
$1\ cm=\frac{1}{100}\ m$
Therefore,
(a) $15\ cm=15\times\frac{1}{100}\ m$
$=\frac{15\times1}{100}\ m$
$=0.15\ m$
(b) $6\ cm=6\times\frac{1}{100}\ m$
$=\frac{6\times1}{100}\ m$
$=0.06\ m$
(c) $45\ cm=45\times\frac{1}{100}\ m$
$=\frac{45\times1}{100}\ m$
$=0.45\ m$
This implies,
$2\ m\ 45\ cm=(2+0.45)\ m$
$=2.45\ m$
(d) $7\ cm=7\times\frac{1}{100}\ m$
$=\frac{7\times1}{100}\ m$
$=0.07\ m$
This implies,
$9\ m\ 7\ cm=(9+0.07)\ m$
$=9.07\ m$
(e) $419\ cm=419\times\frac{1}{100}\ m$
$=\frac{419\times1}{100}\ m$
$=4.19\ m$
