Difference between OneDrive and HCL Connections
There are different types of cloud services out there. Different cloud services have their focus on different factors like security, backup, etc. But, how will we know the specialty of each cloud service? The only way is to try each one out, but most of us don't have that much of time. Also, most of the services are not free either. So, in this article, let us look into two popular services, OneDrive and HCL Connections, and find out the major differences between them. Note that HCL Connections is not a cloud service.
OneDrive
Microsoft OneDrive is a file hosting and syncing service provided by Microsoft as part of its web-based Office application launched in August 2007. OneDrive users can store files and personal data in the cloud and sync files across Android, Windows Phone, iOS devices, Windows and MacOS PCs, etc.
There are two types of OneDrive accounts: "OneDrive Personal Cloud Storage" and "OneDrive for Business". OneDrive personal cloud storage gives 5 GB of free storage that can be extended to 6 TB. For business accounts, the maximum storage available is unlimited.
The majority of OneDrive customers have access as part of a Microsoft 365 subscription, which includes Microsoft Office and 1 TB of OneDrive storage.
The user interface of OneDrive is excellent, and it is available in almost all important operating systems.
It also offers BitLocker encryption and password protection for shared links which is very good to secure sensitive and private files.
Furthermore, it offers a feature called Personal Vault, which helps us to add a layer of extra security. If the user is inactive for some specific amount of time, then to access the files in the personal vault, the user has to verify the identity again
Data is protected in transit using SSL for users of the normal OneDrive service, but it is unencrypted at rest. OneDrive for Business, on the other hand, includes per-file encryption, which encrypts files individually with their key. In addition, OneDrive allows you to sync files created and stored on your PC with the cloud.
You can link OneDrive to various additional devices, including computers, phones, and tablets, to keep your files in sync and accessible from anywhere.
Some of the benefits of OneDrive include unlimited file access, rendering files available from anywhere for collaboration, securely storing files and information and many more. However, some of its disadvantages are user errors, privacy concerns and document management.
HCL Connections
HCL Connections was founded by IBM and later acquired by HCL in 2019.
It is a social software application that helps different employers of an organization to work collaboratively. The users can help each other, ask doubts, seek support, etc., via this platform. It uses the 2.0 development of the web.
They support many types of Plug-ins like Microsoft Outlook, HCL Lotus Notes, HCL Sametime, etc.
The pricing starts from 6 $/Month. They do not have a free version.
One of the significant disadvantages of HCL Connections is its high complexity of use. And, it does not offer a free trial.
Difference between OneDrive and HCL Connections
