C++ Map Library - max_size() Function
Description
The C++ function std::map::max_size() returns the maximum number of elements can be held by map.
This value depends on system or library implementation.
Declaration
Following is the declaration for std::map::max_size() function form std::map header.
C++98
size_type max_size() const;
C++11
size_type max_size() const noexcept;
Parameters
None
Return value
Returns the maximum numbers that can be fit into container.
Exceptions
This member function never throws exception.
Time complexity
Constant i.e. O(1)
Example
The following example shows the usage of std::map::max_size() function.
#include <iostream> #include <map> using namespace std; int main(void) { map <char, int> m; cout << "max_size for map = " << m.max_size() << endl; return 0; }
Let us compile and run the above program, this will produce the following result −
max_size for map = 461168601842738790
