Course Description

This course will give a quick Introduction to Soil Mechanics it will introduce such chapters as soil classification, soil compaction, settlement, consolidation, stresses in soils and earth pressure. It is required for the design of geotechnical structures which are in direct contact or hidden in the Soil. It will be very useful for second year Civil Engineering students and Architectural students.

Goals

The main objective of this Course is to give a quick Introduction to Soil Mechanics. After having passed this course, the students will be ready to take on Foundations Engineering or Geotechnical engineering course. Students will become familiar with soil behavior under different loads, settlement of the soil and how soils are consolidated.

Prerequisites

First year courses in Civil Engineering.
