An artificial satellite is moving in a circular orbit of radius 42250 km. Calculate its speed if it takes 24 hours to revolve around the earth.
Given: An artificial satellite is moving in a circular orbit of radius 42250 km.
To do: To calculate its speed if it takes 24 hours to revolve around the earth.
Solution:
The radius of the orbit $= 42250\ km$
Circumference of the orbit $= 2\pi r$
$=2\times3.14\times42250$
$=2.66\times10^{5}\ km$
The time taken to complete one revolution around the earth is 24 hour
Speed $=\frac{DISTANCE}{TIME}$
$=\frac{2.66\times 10^{5}}{24}$
$=11083.333\ km/h$
