Java SimpleTimeZone observesDaylightTime() Method
Description
The Java SimpleTimeZone observesDaylightTime(Date date) method is used to query if the given date observes daylight saving time.
Declaration
Following is the declaration for java.util.SimpleTimeZone.observesDaylightTime() method.
public boolean observesDaylightTime(Date date)
Parameters
date − This is the given Date.
Return Value
The method call returns true if this SimpleTimeZone observes Daylight Saving Time; false otherwise.
Exception
NA
Checking a SimpleTimeZone of GMT Timezone If Observes Daylight Saving Time
The following example shows the usage of Java SimpleTimeZone observesDaylightTime(Date) method to check if a given date observes daylight saving time. We've created a SimpleTimeZone using GMT and a date using Date object with current time. Then we've checked date if it observes daylight savings using observesDaylightTime() ethod and printed the status.
package com.tutorialspoint; import java.time.Instant; import java.util.Date; import java.util.SimpleTimeZone; public class SimpleTimeZoneDemo { public static void main( String args[] ) { // create simple time zone object SimpleTimeZone stobj1 = new SimpleTimeZone(820,"GMT"); // create date Date date = Date.from(Instant.now()); // check day light boolean daylight = stobj1.observesDaylightTime(date); // checking the value of day light System.out.println("Is in day light : " + daylight); } }
Output
Let us compile and run the above program, this will produce the following result.
Is in day light : false
Checking a SimpleTimeZone of US Timezone If Observes Daylight Saving Time
The following example shows the usage of Java SimpleTimeZone observesDaylightTime(Date) method to check if a given date observes daylight saving time. We've created a SimpleTimeZone using US and a date using Date object with current time. Then we've checked date if it observes daylight savings using observesDaylightTime() ethod and printed the status.
package com.tutorialspoint; import java.time.Instant; import java.util.Date; import java.util.SimpleTimeZone; public class SimpleTimeZoneDemo { public static void main( String args[] ) { // create simple time zone object SimpleTimeZone stobj1 = new SimpleTimeZone(820,"US"); // create date Date date = Date.from(Instant.now()); // check day light boolean daylight = stobj1.observesDaylightTime(date); // checking the value of day light System.out.println("Is in day light : " + daylight); } }
Output
Let us compile and run the above program, this will produce the following result.
Is in day light : false
Checking a SimpleTimeZone of BST Timezone If Observes Daylight Saving Time
The following example shows the usage of Java SimpleTimeZone observesDaylightTime(Date) method to check if a given date observes daylight saving time. We've created a SimpleTimeZone using BST and a date using Date object with current time. Then we've checked date if it observes daylight savings using observesDaylightTime() ethod and printed the status.
package com.tutorialspoint; import java.time.Instant; import java.util.Date; import java.util.SimpleTimeZone; public class SimpleTimeZoneDemo { public static void main( String args[] ) { // create simple time zone object SimpleTimeZone stobj1 = new SimpleTimeZone(820,"BST"); // create date Date date = Date.from(Instant.now()); // check day light boolean daylight = stobj1.observesDaylightTime(date); // checking the value of day light System.out.println("Is in day light : " + daylight); } }
Output
Let us compile and run the above program, this will produce the following result.
Is in day light : false
